The method · what we work on

A plan that respects the vertical.

These are the things we build together — working from general fitness toward the specific demands of your race and terrain. Everything gets adjusted week to week from your own feedback: how you slept, how the last one felt, what life threw at you. No copy-paste, no guesswork.

Durability

Aerobic foundation

Time on feet, easy vert, and the consistency that makes everything else hold. We build the engine first.

Fitness

Speed & threshold

VO2 and lactate work — the general fitness that lifts your ceiling before we make it race-specific.

The vertical

Climbing & descending

Uphill power, power-hiking, and durable downhill legs — what mountain running asks that the road never does.

Race day

Sharpening & taper

Race-effort, fueling and gear dialed to your course — then a taper that has you arrive sharp, not hollow.

Your coach

Hi, I'm Jacob — and I'll see you on the trails.

I came up as a track and cross-country runner, found the marathon at the end of college, and ran Boston before the trails pulled me in. My first ultra was a 50-miler in the Appalachians in 2016; moving out west reignited it, and in 2023 I finished my first hundred, the Run Rabbit Run.

After years of self-coaching, I earned my UESCA certification — first to coach myself better, then because helping friends drop their times turned out to be the best part. My favorite distance is the 100K: short enough to finish in a day if it goes right, long enough that it makes you solve problems.

There's something special about running 100 miles — even when some of it is in the dark.

Questions

Before you lace up.

Not at all. Plenty of the runners I work with are training for a first trail race or first ultra. We meet you where you are and build patiently — coaching scales all the way down to beginners.
Yes. Colorado is home, but coaching is fully virtual. Your plan lives in TrainingPeaks and syncs to your watch; we connect over video and message. I work with runners anywhere in the country or the world.
1:1 coaching is a plan built and adjusted around you every week, with direct access to me — that's what's available today. The templates are proven, week-by-week plans you'd run on your own for a one-time $20; they're in production now, and you can join the waitlist to hear the moment they launch.
Standard 1:1 coaching is $125/mo for the first five athletes who sign on — locked in for as long as you stay. After those five spots fill, Standard moves to its regular $225/mo.
Any time. 1:1 coaching is month-to-month, and we build return-to-run protocols when you need them.
